Claire Michel Withdraws from Paris Olympics
Belgian triathlete pulls out due to illness
Michel finished 38th in the women's triathlon last week
Claire Michel, who swam in the Seine River during the women's triathlon last week, has withdrawn from the event due to illness.
The Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee (BOIC) announced the news on Sunday, the day before the triathlon is set to take place at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
"Claire Michel, who competed in the women's triathlon last week, fell ill on Sunday," the BOIC said in a statement. "The Belgian Olympic Committee has not elaborated further."
Michel finished 38th in the women's triathlon, which was won by Flora Duffy of Bermuda.
The withdrawal of Michel is a blow to the Belgian team, which is hoping to win its first Olympic medal in triathlon.
The BOIC did not say whether Michel will be replaced in the triathlon.
